Further support for farm families with opening of Inheritance Enquiry Unit

The Government has announced further support for Irish farm families with the opening of an Inheritance Enquiry Unit according to local Fianna Fáil TD Niall Blaney.    10/02/10

“The death of a parent is difficult for any family but for farm families, the continuance of the running of the farm is vital. Any break in single farm payments can put undue financial stress on families in what is already a difficult time.”

“The Minister for Agriculture, Brendan Smith TD has announced the establishment of a Inheritance Enquiry Unit where family members or legal representatives can seek assistance to secure outstanding payments due to the estate of the deceased or to arrange for the transfer of the Single Farm Payment. The Unit will also seek to streamline the process ensuring that any legal documents can be lodged with them removing the necessity for duplicate copies to be lodged with several sections.”

“The new Unit will be based within the Single Payment Section of the Department in Portlaoise.”

“An information leaflet is also available on www.agriculture.gov.ie or from the local Agriculture office. The Inheritance Enquiry Unit can be contacted at; Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Food, Eircom Building, Knockmay Road, Portlaoise. They can also be contacted on 1890 200 560 or at inheritance@agriculture.gov.ie.”

“A death in the family is a difficult enough event, but worrying about cash flow to ensure the continued running of the farm only increases pressure on families. I am confident that this new Inquiry Unit will be of great assistance. This Government recognises the importance of providing practical measures to support farm families and rural Ireland and I am sure this new Unit will be welcomed,” concluded Niall Blaney TD.
