Blaney slams McHugh’s Dáil response to 'media challenge'
Donegal North East Fianna Fáil TD Niall Blaney has questioned guarantees given by Joe McHugh TD in Dáil Eireann in relation to job creation in Donegal. 25/02/10“I listened with interest when Joe McHugh guaranteed the creation of 240 jobs in Donegal this week.”
“He said he was responding to a challenge made by the media to come up with proposals for job creation and he ‘guaranteed’ the creation of 240 jobs in Donegal if just three telephone calls are made.”
“I recall Deputy McHugh ‘guaranteeing’ the creation of 60 jobs some time back as well, but they never materialised. We were led to believe a few years ago that 60 jobs were to be created at the Fruit of the Loom factory in Millford, but they never appeared.”
“He is clearly engaging in Michael O’Leary PR tactics and that kind of propaganda is not helpful.”
“The Government is working to create sustainable employment in Donegal. Clearly Donegal, like the rest of the country, faces its fair share of challenge but intensive efforts have been made to create employment and facilitate a pro-enterprise environment.”
“I am working with some of the companies he mentioned in Dáil Eireann myself and I will do everything I can to see that they are facilitated in what they are trying to do. I am also available to help the other companies he mentioned.”
“The IDA and the Donegal County Enterprise Board and Enterprise Ireland are doing good work in the county, regardless of whether they receive due recognition from Deputy McHugh and his colleagues.”
“There are 12 IDA Ireland-supported companies in Donegal employing almost 2,000 people full time and part time in software development, systems development and the medical technology industry. This is in addition to the vast numbers of small and medium sized businesses that have been supported by the Donegal County Enterprise Board.”
"Project Kelvin will increase accessibility and help open many doors for businesses in Donegal, and the fact that it is being developed in the North West has been recognised as a major coup.”
“I will continue to work with the Tánaiste Mary Coughlan TD to deliver real and sustainable jobs for Donegal, and not those built on propaganda promises,” concluded Niall Blaney TD.
