Blaney confirms funding for local flood relief works
Donegal North East Fianna Fáil TD Niall Blaney has confirmed that funding has been allocated for flood relief works in North Donegal. 30/03/10The news was confirmed to him by her colleague, the Minister with Responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Dr Martin Mansergh TD.
“As a result of the unprecedented wet weather we experienced before Christmas, the Government is providing additional funding to the Office of Public Works for flood mitigation measures,” Deputy Blaney confirmed.
“Dr Martin Mansergh, the Minister with responsibility for the OPW, informed me today that funding allocated under a minor works scheme is significantly increased since last year. Last year some €2.1 million was allocated, in comparison to €6.7 million for this year.”
“In Donegal North East, €18,000 has been allocated to repair a collapsed sea wall at the Fahan Marina and €54,000 has been allocated to strengthen the existing wall and to build a new wall at the Inch Island Causeway.”
“Donegal County Council can proceed with these approved measures now to reduce the level of risk in the communities affected.”
“The application assessment process if still ongoing and local authorities may make further applications under the scheme during the year. All applications that meet the criteria will be considered in regard to the overall resources remaining,” concluded Niall Blaney TD.
