Blaney confirms four temporary classrooms for St Eunan’s College to ease enrolment demands

Donegal North East Fianna Fáil TD Niall Blaney has confirmed that four temporary classrooms have been approved for St Eunan’s College in Letterkenny to meet the demand on student enrolment at the school.   26/04/10

The news was confirmed to Deputy Blaney by his colleague, the new Minister for Education and Skills, An Tánaiste Mary Coughlan TD.

Deputy Blaney welcomed the news, but added that the allocation of the classrooms would not be allowed to delay progress on a new school building for the school.

“I am happy that four additional, temporary classrooms have been made available for St Eunan’s College. The school had to limit enrolments for the first time this year due to demand and this extra accommodation will help ease the current pressures on the school.”

“However, this accommodation is not being provided in lieu of a new school building. I have been working steadily to secure this much needed capital development and I will continue to do so. The former Minister for Education and Science Batt O’Keeffe TD assured me that St Eunan’s was in line for priority and I have met with the Tánaiste Mary Coughlan TD since she took over the role of Education and Skills Minister and she has assured me equally that St Eunan’s and the other schools in Letterkenny in need of investment will be given priority in the next allocations.”

“St Eunan’s holds such a historically significant place in the town and it attracts students from a very large catchment area. While its extension is in early architectural planning currently, it must be moved on to construction without delay.”

“I will continue to work on behalf of the school to ensure that it receives the necessary funding as soon as possible. In the meantime, I hope that the additional four temporary classrooms will help to ease pressures on the school,” concluded Niall Blaney TD.
