Letterkenny must be prioritised for jobs, Blaney tells Enterprise Minister
Local TD Niall Blaney has met with the recently appointed Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O’Keeffe TD, to urge him to prioritise Letterkenny for upcoming job creation prospects. 17/05/10The town is perfectly position to cater for the needs of industries in the science, telecommunications, technology, and R&D fields with qualified graduates emerging from the LYIT, he said.
“I met with Minister O’Keeffe to urge him to prioritise Letterkenny in his new role as Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation.”
“I made a strong case to him about the potential of the town, pointing out some of its strong selling points like its workforce, cost levels, and infrastructure.”
“We spoke about the success being experienced by some of the companies in the Letterkenny CoLab and he was very impressed with the calibre of industries that call Letterkenny home such as SITA, Pramerica, and Zeus.”
“Minister O’Keeffe is aware of the development of Project Kelvin and he was very positive about the potential for job creation in the North West stemming from it.”
“Letterkenny and North Donegal will benefit from Project Kelvin in time, but we need to see shorter term job creation prospects become a reality too. I stressed this to him and I urged him to give the town the highest priority.”
“The recession has been tough on so many families in Donegal, we need a jobs boost. New industries would not only create new jobs, the spinoff would be felt by other businesses in the town too.”
Deputy Blaney said he will continue to press Minister O’Keeffe for a jobs announcement for the town. He said he will work with Minister O’Keeffe to find a suitable employer to bring about the much needed job boost.
